The local village, Castelnau Durban, is a 2km riverside walk. I t has a bakery and general store, a tabac, a bookshop and an excellent family run restaurant. St Girons, the nearest town is 17 kms. It has an exceptionally good Saturday market and all facilities of a small town. Good restaurants, shops, cybercafe. Many local places of outstanding beauty and historic interest: Montsegur, Roquefixade-famous Cathar Castles; the town and Castle at Foix, the caves at Tarascon and the mediaeval town of Mirepoix. The area is perfect for walking and cycling [the Tour de France passed through St Girons in 2004]. Walks can be accessed directly from the gardens. Local swimming lake. |
